A rigorously integrated model bringing together Scripture, neuroscience, and clinical practice — equipping you to help people heal without compromise. For counselors, pastors, coaches, and leaders who refuse the false choice between faith and mental health.
This is where that journey begins.
This book gives you a clear framework for understanding how people actually heal, bringing together Scripture, neuroscience, and real-world experience into one coherent model. As you read, you’ll begin to see people, pain, and growth through a new lens and gain the language and clarity needed to care for others with greater confidence.
NICC was born out of a deep dissatisfaction with the unnecessary divide between faith and mental health, the false choice that asked clinicians to bracket their faith or asked pastors to treat psychology with suspicion. Neither path is faithful to reality.
If the Author of Scripture and the Designer of the human nervous system are one and the same (and we believe they are), then studying the Bible and studying the brain should illuminate the same truth from different angles.

Josh Spurlock, MA, LPC, CST, NICC, is a licensed professional counselor, certified sex therapist, and the founder of MyCounselor®.Online. He developed Neuroscience Informed Christian Counseling® over nearly twenty years of clinical practice, training, and outcomes research.
His formation began with undergraduate study in biblical languages — three years of Greek and two years of Hebrew — before pursuing graduate training in clinical counseling. In 2020, he stepped away to a small cabin at Lake Tahoe to distill nearly two decades of clinical work into a coherent, nameable model. That is where NICC was born.
In 2024, NICC published its first major outcomes data, demonstrating a 93.6% success rate among a 1,211-person cohort — and is now being made publicly available through the NICC Institute for the first time.
